Sunny side up.. trois

After a long and dark December( Credits: Coldplay), it was finally not looking so gloomy. I was happy, looking forward to a job( gets to even the lazy people after half a year of joblessness) Another Spring was about to unleash beautiful colors and you can add the saga where the birds sing and chirp , blah , blah.....Again I had no idea how many tormenting things I had signed up for.

So getting back to the positives of 2010, the year started well with a whole new chain of things that we decide to do or not to do every year (I kinda forgot the word for it also after the first week). I mean to resolve a lot of things including my memory each year...but as you can see the results: ZERO/0 / ZILCH.

So here goes the list of 2010 inflictions of pain and the positives I saw in them

Case 7: I have the dreaded 8:00 Am classes on 2 days. Whats best? I get paid to be there.
Positive: duh? Didn't I mention PAY...also they were not my own courses..Inshort go there n sleep....

Case 8: I have been in teams many teams. Lord forbid a team with all girls and all guys, both of which I got to savour.
Positive: Gals can talk about loads of things, was kinda fun!! Guys (if they are poles apart)you dunno where to hide...but I found a corner !!

Case 9: I wish and pray for millions in a warehouse but not millions of records (mostly unclean) in a data warehouse.
Positive: I learnt 6 things from this one
#1: How to beg a person not to hard reset the machine without actually being there / How to threaten people to stay away from a computer while ur query is running.
#2: How to spend nights in sitting in a lab full of nerds
#3: Focusing on the job at hand with all the nerd talk
#4: How red bull and monster do what according to hopeless romantics only love can do --> Make u have sleepless nights
#5: How to read a book which has 20 chapters most of which have just the same one diagram.
#6: Among other things, how to create a DW, reports , etc.....

Case 10: After the exams, came emails of rejects( 5/day Im being modest here).
Positive: I used to lok forward to something that just did not say " Thank you for your interest in", even if it was " save 10% today with exclusive online deals"

The summer kicks in with temperatures soaring and the FIFA , only Spain had glory to take home...Again I did not know that my life was about to change, but only after a 12- hour journey ...

Sunny side up.. deux

There is one thing about positives, it makes sense, only with the negatives around. It might be like salt in food. You can find everything sweet without it, but the taste is just, not that good. So, here we are looking at the brighter side of things. It was summer when I reached the US and I never felt like it until I made it to College station. Before going to Aggieland, I visited a beautiful place called Charlotte,NC. It was like a rustic movie setting and my stay there was quite pleasant. I was yet to discover the delights of living on my own. By living on my own , I thought of having a household to run, according to my taste and me being in control of my own life. I did not know, it would involve doing everything on my own, which kind of does not appeal so much to my lazy self.

I get to College Station with my cousin happily and am excited to start a new life. Finally the moment has arrived to find a house(I like to call it MY KINGDOM). But let's say finding a piece of land is easy in Texas, but finding one with a building is tough.(when you reach 2 weeks after everyone that's the case) After cruising along for hours, a noble soul finally subleased the apartment. I finally understand the meaning of the phrase "Hindi chini bhai bhai".

Case 4: I get to the orientation ceremony with hopes of finding new friends and a diverse class.
Yeah, apart from many Mumbai people, I see people from Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi, and every Indian city possible, and some from China. Diversity indeed!!
Positive: I met two of my very amazing friends here. I am grateful for that day.

Case 5: The scorching sun wreaked havoc in my life. Apart from dehydration, it also gifted me, blisters in my feet. The sun made hay, while I melted.
Positive: The sales of soda, lemonade and sunscreen went up in College Station.

Case 6: The semester begins and I get absorbed into courses and try to find a campus job. I think Lady Luck stopped even looking at me. Day after day I looked for a job and read various ways to tell a person, " You Suck!". After a million email rejects and a mailed letter rejecting me, I stopped applying.
Positive: I got to enjoy the semester. Only my dad's bank balance had a different tale to tell.

Sunny side up.. une

In life we are all forced to see the good things if we need to maintain a positive outlook. For a person who falls somewhere or breaks something at least once a day, it might be instrumental in maintaining mental balance. So,(to keep my mental balance, which according to the lady who has given me birth, tells me is the case and many others agree) I decided to look the positives out of the past one year. The day begins when I have to leave for the land of dreams, and I have woken up late. My dad does not chastisize me(WOW!!) and my mom loving cooks awesome breakfast. The mood is melancholy, everyone is trying hard to get everything in order. Their beloved daughter is leaving them to study somewhere. After a great day of fond memories, a caravan of cars leaves for the airport. With tears in my eyes, I enter the airport terminal and it begins.

Case 1: I got conned for Rs. 200 for each my bags to wrap them in plastic. Then one of them was overweight and off came the plastic. Wasted money count : Rs 200 already. Then after stuffing another bag and smiling for 10 minutes at the officer, I check in all my bags.
Positive: Practical short course in "How to pack ur luggage in 5 minutes"

The rest of the journey was filled with little events of misfortune. Hey!! We are looking at the positives. So scratch that.

Case 2: My flight is announced and I reach the gate after everyone has boarded the flight. Good God!! Had to run so much. I get seated next to a girl. No hot guy in sight (except the cabin crew)!! I am like " Wat the hell"
Positive: I could happily sleep in my seat and the girl was actually friendly and knew some of my college people.

Case 3: I reach the place in single piece, but the pieces of luggage have not arrived. Nothing ever goes right with me. My cousin is hassling with the lady at the counter and I stand like an idiot.
Finally,we reach home.
Positive: Awesome home cooked food!!

Prepared. This is not just a word. This seems to be the mantra to be successful today. It dictates people's lives to an extent where they employ gigabytes of mindless things, just in case they do not miss out any small important detail. We ask ourselves daily, "How prepared am I to take on this world?" For some people with attitude, it might be " How well prepared is the world to face me today?" For souls who have never experienced the thing they so much worry about, wonder " How will it be like?" Expectations and the feeling that you can handle it only when you know what is behind the curtain is just an illusion. You never know for sure, whether something is going to happen, but we still prepare. Why??? Do you not trust yourself? Do you feel scared about the future?

How much can you be prepared? What amount of preparation is enough to take you through the crisis? There is no limit to this paranoid behavior. The lack of self-belief is at it's prime here. You feel vulnerable and exposed if you don't know about the person in front of you. It is better if you your schedule for months before hand. It is always better to have a plan. What a farce! You needed a plan only to build a rocket, life is not rocket science.

Mera number kab aayega

I used to count how many times a certain fella said "In Turn" and attributed the growing of the count to his not getting an internship. Well, what goes around comes back. The number of rejects I have makes the In Turn count a small number.
I used to think "This is past tense of my current standing", whenever I heard Coldplay Viva da living " I used to rule the world". But it seems that it has turned to present tense. All this has made me really tense.
I used to think those poor suckers will wait for my party, but it seems I am the one asking "So when is the party?"
I used to think, but right now I am waiting for my TERN....
